Wilhelm Mueller is a traditional factory producing a variety of hard candies. The family business is based in Duisburg – Germany and was incorporated in 1949. Wilhelm Mueller was the first candy maker who produced Cachou and Cough Drops with the sole use of natural herbal extracts at weekly markets right before the audience’s eyes.
Even today the company’s policy is to produce sweets from natural herbal extracts and flavorings and the founder Wilhelm Mueller personally controls the production in order to ensure the long lasting quality of these candies. In total the firm produces more than 50 different varieties of hard candies and they remain popular among young and old in all classes. The company is not engaging in mass production, the candies are still cooked in old copper kettles and some of the recipes are more than 100 years old.
The candies are not being sold in supermarkets; they are exclusively distributed to festivals, weekly and Christmas markets, and pharmacies all over Germany.
The Mueller candies are gourmet and extraordinary treats which is reflected in the high quality of natural ingredients and traditional production.
Nowadays, it is increasingly difficult to source the appropriate ingredients that uphold the quality expectations the company has. “I’m a health nut,” says the owner Wilhelm Mueller. Harmful dyes are not used and even artificial sweeteners are absolutely taboo.
The most popular candies are the Mulled Wine candies, using a recipe from Wilhelm’s wife Ingrid Mueller. In the pre-Christmas season 40 tons of this mixture will be produced and sold to vendors at Christmas markets.
