The second week on the market went by quickly as well. Unfortunately there were again quite a few rainy days. However, as soon as the rain stops the market gets really busy and people enjoy the authentic German Christmas atmosphere.
It wasn’t as easy to plan upfront which candy types will be the most popular ones and which will be less frequently asked. So after the first week we figured that we will run short of few kinds and so we decided to order more candies straight from Germany per airfreight!

The visitors keep asking us if we have a store in Vancouver where we sell the candies or if they can buy the candies online. So far there is no store, but we are working on this, at least for our excess inventory. We get many hints from customers about potential stores that could be interested in selling the candies left from the market such as gluten free stores and bakeries as well as grocery stores. Check out our website when the Christmas Market is over to find out what shops in Vancouver will carry our excess inventory.
[[Show as slideshow]]
Also we are having a candy photo competition going on where we give away one candy jar per week for the Facebook photo that receives the most “likes” from the preceding week. To take part in the contest just come to our candy hut take a photo with our golden frame or simply our candies and post it to our Facebook page. Every day our candy community is growing very fast and people post the nicest pictures on Facebook. Also December 8th, was the German nation day on the market and we were offering 3 candy bags for $10. The special offer was highly demanded so that it became our best day on the market so far. So should we maybe repeat this offer?!

Another great visitor came along to visit the market. We had the chance to take a photo with Hurly (Jorge Garcia) from the famous tv show “Lost” and he loved our candies!

We bet there are more exciting days to come. Stay tuned for more great deals and candy fun. Thanks everyone so far.

People love our candies and we are so happy about it! That’s the finding from the first week!

The opening weekend was sunny and bright in Vancouver and thus brought us lots of visitors to the Vancouver Christmas Market and many of them were very interested in our candies. Some told us they know these candies from their childhood, especially the Peppermint Pillows with choco filling and the sweet Raspberries. The response is just overwhelming.

In the middle of the week it started to rain and didn’t really stop. This is very unfortunate for the market, however, a few people came out and enjoyed all markets attractions without lining up.

On Thursday we were approached by CBC Vancouver to give a live interview from inside our candy hut for the 6 pm news. This was an amazing opportunity for us to present our candies in the Canadian television. Our team member Stephanie gave the interview and gave a few insights about the candies and the producer Wilhelm Mueller from Germany. Below you can watch the video.

After the interview the reporter team tried our candies and fell in love with them immediately. Who knows, they might come back for another round of candy sampling.

Today, it was still a bit rainy, but we really hope people will still come anyways to the market to enjoy the good food and grab a mulled wine to stay warm.

You are welcome to come by and try all the different flavours of our natural candies.

We picked up our Cotton Candy machine in Oroville, Washington. After a 2 hour drive from Kelowna to the US border we finally got to Oroville. At a Pick-up Point they stored huge boxes of the machine and supplies. We knew that we ordered a lot, but had no idea about the actual volume of the freight. When we saw the size of all packages we doubted to fit them all in our (small) car.
[[Show as slideshow]]
But we made it! Our well developed Tetris skills helped us eventually to fit all boxes and even ourselves into the car. Even though we couldn’t see through our windows anymore. Then we realized that we would need a second car to move all the stuff we bought. We brought the machine and supplies safely back to Kelowna and can’t wait now to take it in seven days to Vancouver where the Christmas Market will start on November 24, 2012 at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre Plaza.
We will be offering freshly produced blue raspberry and pink vanilla cotton candy at the Vancouver Christmas Market for young and old!

During the 2011 Christmas season we knew already that we will be next year by this time of the year in British Columbia, Canada. We also knew about the German Vancouver Christmas Market in downtown Vancouver which openend its doors for the first time in 2010. The market has received great feedback in the last two years and it became already an annual happening that no Vancouverite wants to miss.

So we went for a stroll on the Christmas market next to the Opernpalais in Berlin and kept an eye out for products that would fit to Vancouver Christmas Market. We saw many interesting craft and food products and enganged in discussions with the vendors about their experiences selling at a Christmas Market.

One of the huts sold traditional German hard candies, most of them all made from natural ingredients and the same time gluten free. The hut was selling hard candies from the sugar confectionery manufacturer Wilhelm Mueller – Spezialfabrik für Kraeuterbonbons in Duisburg, Germany. Since both of us love these kind of candies, especially the Mulled Wine and Green Woodroff Leaves, it didn’t take long to realize that this is exactly the product we were looking for.

After doing a little bit of research and consulting friends in Canada, thanks Shanna, Vishana and Randi, it became clear that this type of hard candy is not really sold on the Canadian market. So we decided to take this opportunity and to introduce the more than 25 amazing products to the Canadian Christmas Market.

The idea is born, but it is still a long way to go!
